Students from South Devon UTC who have completed their Sixth Form can progress into jobs as Technicians, progress into an engineering or science based apprenticeship or progress to Higher Education to study for a degree. The progression pathways on offer are linked to the main industries and job opportunities in engineering, digital technologies, water and the environment, and also to a range of university degree programmes.
An individual learning programme for each student allows for progression to his or her preferred career and/or higher education. One big difference is the way in which students learn. Alongside GCSE and A level subjects, students learn through core projects involving practical and applied learning, linked to local employers, rather than just theoretical, classroom-based work.
Another difference from other schools is that students have the opportunity to spend more time in the workplace. All students joining South Devon UTC undertake regular work experience as part of their timetable as well as have opportunities for work experience during holiday periods. Students will therefore leave us with up to four years work experience gained with some of the best organisations in the area, which will make them stand head and shoulders above the competition when the time comes to look for a job.
Our students also get involved with volunteering in the local community and are actively encouraged to participate in charity fundraising and awareness.
